A Visit to the Grisly Site

It’s been exactly a month since I was loping along the trail and this tree root jumped up and threw me to the ground. Since then, someone has painted it bright red! It truly does look gruesome, doesn’t it?

Hanging In Our Library

This piece is about 3’ x 3’. It hangs above the windows in our library. Isn’t it wonderful? Animals made out of discarded plastic (?) and little tiny mirrors.

A Movie I Loved

Tom, Amy, and Tim had seen it before. But I had never seen Arrival, a heart-breakingly beautiful movie based on a short story by Ted Chiang, starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker. So Amy and the 2 T’s politely watched it again, and I watched it for the first time. It’s about the arrival of creatures from another planet, the importance of getting words as right as possible, communication, time, and love. I hope you watch it if you haven’t already!

Benefits of Broken Ankles

A mysterious card came with the flowers: Dear Linda Alfresca Or Alfresco ~ Heal So You Can Get Back To The Ditch. Mush

Elephant Ankles

I thought this email from Anne was so funny and so beautiful.

Dear Linda,

Thinking about your elephant ankle and sending healing thoughts. I took this photo of myself yesterday morning. It doesn’t compare to yours (YES IT DOES, ANNE!) but my ankles are big too ….

New Bedside Table

What’s on my bedside table: Children’s Island by P. C. Jersild (thank you, Amy), and My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante (thank you, Gwen).

What’s in my bedside table: Ice for my ankle (20 minutes every two hours), candy, beer, fizzy water.

Books that Changed My Life

This month Everybody who's Anybody is compiling a list of “Books that Changed My Life.” Since nobody asked ME to do a list, I thought I’d put one together anyway!

Happiness

I just got out of the ortho-doc, who said that I wouldn’t need to have any bones set, and I wouldn’t need to have a cast. I was so happy! Not to mention that we discovered a great new restaurant on the way home called Fork and Fig.

Really Goodbye This Time.

I thought if I broke my ankle that Kathy would decide not to move to Atlanta, but it didn’t work. 😿

Huh-oh

I tripped on a tree root in broad daylight and fell on the side of my face, and broke my ankle! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked/jogged on the ditch after the sun has set. But nope, this happened in broad daylight. The boot is pretty handsome though, is it not?

Used to be a walk-in closet

It was snowing today––the day Dan planned to cut the hole for the window. It didn’t stop him. (You’re looking through it up there.) It’s still rough, but now there’s a crank-out window in place. I’ve been using the walk-in closet for my computer work station. It will be so much brighter now! You’re looking out “the window” onto my little balcony; and our walking/biking trail (the irrigation ditch) runs between the two fences back there.
